~Review~

To be honest, when I started reading this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect and maybe that was a good thing. This book has seriously blown me away.

I’ve already mentioned that I love when the book has strong female character and this book is just that. The main character, Elizabeth Pennington, is a grown up women, living in 1910, the beginning of women’s fights for their rights. She is working in the department store that’s owned by her, very patriarchal, father. She’s hardworking and passionate about her job and the department store that she should take over in the future. But will that happen with her father thinking that it will only happen if she marries a man that he wants her to marry?

Joseph Carter is a master glove-maker and totally supportive of women’s movement. He is full set on getting Penningtons to carry his gloves and when he succeeds, he couldn’t be happier. He is supporting Elizabeth, in any way that he can, in her visions about the store. What happens when their, not only business, but also personal relationships blooms? What will her father say?

This story is full on fight for independence, passion and following your heart. I must say that Elizabeth’s and Joseph’s drive and passion to change things is really inspiring. It shows you that you have to fight for what you love and care about, because no one else will. You might not get what you want in the beginning but that doesn’t mean that you have to stop fighting for it. When you fight for it, every small win will be important. It doesn’t bring you anything if you will stop what you want to fight for, just because of someone. On top of it all, this story also gives you a glimpse of how women were treated back then. As a feminist, I want to learn more about the movement and reading the books set in that time is really great. It might be fiction but it is nice fiction.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to see full on female power and see how it is when your drive is your passion for something that you love. If you are fan of historical fiction, I’m sure that this book will be for you.
